The Government Steals A Child

So, this story is about a woman who immigrated here illegally a few years ago. When she got caught, she was most likely sent to one of those hell-hole private prisons that would make Guantanamo look like a resort. Where you have no rights and it’s ok to abuse you. Since you are illegal and worse than a murderer in all. And if you don’t speak any English, god help you. As was the case with this woman.

She was caught, her son removed (because she was illegal), then she spent the last five years fighting to get him back. They even renamed him, gave him a nice new family, and won’t allow him to see his mother. In their own words, “illegally smuggling herself into the country is not a lifestyle that can provide any stability for the child.” Wow, that’s sweet Missouri. Maybe you should take all the children away from the poor and homeless since they cannot provide any stability for a child either. Maybe what Bail Romero did wasn’t legal, but you give criminals at least the right to see their child, can’t you at least do that?

Why when she is some faceless Hispanic Woman?

Tug-of-Love: Immigrant Mom Loses Effort to Regain Son Given to US Parents

In a controversial case that involved the rights of illegal immigrants and their young children, a Guatemalan mother lost her effort today to get back the five-year old son who was taken away from her after her arrest on immigration charges and put up for adoption in Missouri despite her objections.

A Missouri judge ruled the boy should stay with the Missouri couple, Melinda and Seth Moser, who took him into their home five years ago while his mother was in federal custody, where she attempted in vain to oppose the adoption proceedings.

“Nobody could help me because I don’t speak English,” said Encarnacion Bail Romero in an interview with ABC News.

The child, born as Carlos but renamed Jamison by the Mosers, has been with his adoptive parents in Carthage, Missouri since the age of 11 months.

The judge said the biological mother had no rights to even see her child, according to the mother’s lawyer.

Asked if the Mosers would allow Bail Romero to see the child, the Mosers’ attorney, Joseph Hensley, said the couple was “not willing to comment on that at this time.”

‘We’re extremely happy about the decision,” said Hensley, who also noted that the decision “really puts the biological mom in a difficult decision in terms of staying in this country.”

The ruling today reaffirmed the original decision by another Missouri judge who terminated the parental rights of Bail Romero, stating that “illegally smuggling herself into the country is not a lifestyle that can provide any stability for the child.”

The Missouri Supreme Court called the initial decision a “travesty of justice” and ordered a review of the case by a second judge.

Appearing outside the courtroom with tears in her eyes, the biological mother declined to comment.

Her lawyer, Curtis Woods, said he would appeal the decision of the judge who he said ruled Encarnacion Bail Romero’s parental rights had been terminated because she had abandoned him while she was incarcerated.

“I am very disappointed in the decision,” said Woods.

The judge handed down the decision in a courtroom closed to all but the parties involved and their lawyers. There was no translator provided by the court today for the Guatemalan woman, who speaks only a little English.

The ruling allows the formal adoption proceedings by the Mosers to proceed.

The Mosers left the court without speaking to reporters, but they had previously argued in court that they could best provide for the boy and that they were the only parents that he knew.

“I could not love him more, had he come out of me physically,” Melinda Moser said in an earlier interview.

The biological mother was arrested in 2007 on an immigration raid at a chicken processing plant in Missouri and has not seen her son since.

Cool Blog: Dog Walk Across America

A while ago, Travels with Casey pointed out a cool clog worth watching, “Dog Walk Across America.” Where 2 people and 2 dogs are walking across America to bring awareness of the need for homes for dogs. I am not sure how this brings awareness, but it is really cool. I also something I wanted to do myself oneday. Just not sure I could do it though . . .

Some Olympic News: Greek Jumper Expelled From Olympic Team for Racist Tweet

So, Friday has come and gone and the Olympics are now officially going full swing! Now, the news will be flooded with Olympic Coverage. Luckily, I don’t intend to post very much of it. It all pretty much the same as previous years. Blah, Blah, Person won Blah, Blah, More Buff, Blah Blah. Not very interesting to me. The only sport I really care about is Equestrian but that never gets much coverage on American TV, have to go to the Canadians to get that. Thank you Canada!!! (I love you!)

Anyway, on to the article at hand: With all the coverage of the best of the best, this article may have been lost if not found by me. It tells of a misguided Greek Athlete who tweeted a racist remark then got booted right before the Olympics ever started. The remark was tasteless but did she deserved to lose her spot to achieve the Olympic Dream? I am not so sure. This seems like a matter of retraining and education over punishment. Too bad the Greeks didn’t agree . . .

Fans have taken to the Internet to defend Paraskevi “Voula” Papachristou after the Greek triple jumper was expelled from her country’s Olympic team for a Tweet perceived as racist.

Papachristou, 23, was preparing to head to London for her first Olympic Games when she posted a joke to her Twitter feed. It was about the West Nile virus, and appeared to mock Greece’s African immigrant population.

“With so many Africans in Greece, at least the mosquitoes of West Nile will eat homemade food!!!” she tweeted Sunday.

Papachristou has often taken to Twitter to express her support for the extreme right-wing party Golden Dawn, which has recently surged in popularity among Greeks.

In response to criticism by Twitter users who said her joke was racially insensitive, she initially took a defiant tone.

“I’m not a stuck CD! And if I make mistakes, I do not hit replay! I continue playing!” she tweeted on Monday.

By Wednesday, though, she had turned remorseful, saying in a statement on Twitter and Facebook, “I would like to express my heartfelt apologies for the unfortunate and tasteless joke I published on my personal Twitter account. I am very sorry and ashamed for the negative responses I triggered, since I never wanted to offend anyone, or to encroach human rights.”

“I would like to apologize to all my friends and fellow athletes, who I may have insulted or shamed, the National Team, as well as the people and companies who support my athletic career,” she said. “Finally, I would like to apologize to my coach and my family.”

About the EPIX Original Documentary
William Shatner’s Get a Life! – Premiering July 28 at 8pm EST
Based on Shatner’s hugely popular book (in response to his now infamous skit on SNL), this film examines the mystery, longevity and the cultural phenomena of Star Trek and its long-obsessed fans known as “Trekkers.” On the surface, the film is an exploration of strangers who have for years attended conventions which looked foolish and almost laughable to some – but Shatner discovers the many secrets and hidden motives behind these individuals’ compulsion to attend these events. The end result is a film that reveals a fun and touching side of the fanfare surrounding Star Trek, and examines the thrill of what’s happening at these fantasy conventions and the enduring popularity of the film and TV series as Shatner further embraces his role as Captain James T. Kirk and his own impact.
