So, during Gaming Week 2 I had a bad experience with a neighbor of mine. This rant is the result:
Recently I heard about a new program to promote everyone who is currently part-time to full-time. And being from the news, well, I had to believe it was real. Just like the veterans program that Walmart runs now. I heard about it first in the news and then later on, well, it came to be. So I believe that it will happen. But I just don’t know how I feel about it.
Right now I work between 25 to 32 hours a week. And I get paid about $8.60 an hour. That’s not a lot of money. Yet of late, my hours have been more stable and my money has been more consistent. So I’ve gotten used to the idea of having a more stable life. Which working full time would create even more of a stable life. And I like that. I like the possibility of having more money. Of having insurance through Walmart. And being able to get away from food stamps and Medicaid.
However, I wouldn’t make that much extra money to justify the loss of the money from the government. Medicaid is a great program for health benefits. Something Walmart doesn’t match. They have incredibly high deductibles that make it almost as if there is no coverage at all. And I’d have to pay each month for this coverage. I’m not sure I want to do that. Particularly, if the program isn’t that great. But I might have to anyway because of Obama care. So I might be better off just getting the health care. I should be in theory able to continue to receive my CPAP supplies. And I might be able to have some sick days – I think. I actually don’t know on that one. I guess I will have to find out.
There’s also the problem of whether or not I want to be at Walmart that much. I’m already there more than I want to be. It feels like a full-time job without actually being a full-time job. So much of my week is dominated by the retailer that I’m not sure that I want my life to be even more consumed by it. Of course, it could mean more regulated hours. Which would make my day better. I just don’t know how I feel about it.
Although, when my time comes, I guess I’m going to have to agree. It’s too good of an opportunity to pass up. I need the extra money that full time would provide. And I think I could possibly handle it now. I just don’t know if I want to.
Of course, it could prevent what they’ve been doing to me recently. I have had a lot of cashier shifts. However, I’m not being paid as a cashier. This is because my pay rate is locked in at the sales floor rate not the cashier’s rate. I don’t agree with it but, it does give me more hours. So I have been tolerating it.
But if I do get full-time then I will not tolerate this particular treatment. Because I will have enough hours that I will not need time to fill-in. Besides, I think my hours will be too high to risk going over with cashing shifts. So, I can possibly see an end to the shifts. So that is good. But do I really want to be full-time? I just really don’t know.

So, I have posted A LOT about video games this week. And I’ve got a out of my Watch Later, but there are still way more. Especially videos that I have forgotten that I put in the watch later. So, maybe there will be another Gaming Week or two in the future. But for now, let’s wrap up this week with the video “How Tough Are NES Games?”
See you tomorrow with a NON-video game related video!
Remember the Nintoaster? Well, if you remember, The Angry Video Game Nerd has it. Although, I am not sure if the one featured in this video. Which is awesome because it is in the form of an fake instructional video. Really cool!!!!
The Sega Mega Drive or the Sega Genesis (in US/Canada) was my favorite console growing up – despite the fact I’ve never owned a Genesis. (Whole other story). Games such as Sonic the Hedgehog hold a special place in my heart. But what do other people think of the Genesis? Does it still hold up today? Find out in this review:
I never played it but it does seem interesting . . .
I’ve never played Earthbound, but I have heard of it. And it sounds very interesting – especially for the time period. I am not sure I’d want to do JRPG-styled grinding though.
But enough of that, now to the show:
